Copilot User Guide

Navigation Summary:

The navigation summary is composed of alphanumeric displays. These displays are configurable in the Copilot settings menu.

Navigation Map:

The navigation map is enabled when a GPS satellite fix is acquired. Nearby waypoints are displayed if a waypoint file is selected from the Copilot settings menu. A radius specified in the GPX or KML waypoint file will display as a dashed line around the waypoint.

Virtual Radar:

The navigation map will display ADS-B air traffic cursors when enabled in the Copilot settings menu. Non-threat traffic will display as BLUE cursors. Traffic warnings will display as YELLOW cursors. Traffic resolution advisories will display as RED cursors. Virtual radar is only available for the Copilot Professional.

Settings Menu:

The settings menu allows for customization of the navigation summary page displays, user configurable parameters and sensor calibration. Power off the Copilot and hold the BLUE pushbutton while powering on the Copilot. Use the throttle lever to adjust the value of a selected parameter.

Simulation Mode:

From the settings menu "Simulation mode" enables a high-fidelity paramotor flight simulation. This feature allows for testing of various functionalities, but should not be used during flight.

Data Logging:

From the settings menu set a log rate and file format to enable logging. GPX and KML file formats contain time and position information. CSV file format includes sensor measurements in addition to time and position information. Log files are saved to internal storage accessible with a computer via micro USB. When storage is full, old logs will be deleted to preserve storage.

Sensor Calibration:

From the settings menu select "Calibration" and follow the on-screen instructions. Slowly rotate the Copilot in all directions to generate a spherical point cloud until prompted the calibration is complete. After any reset the Copilot will require a new calibration.

Soft Reset:

From the settings menu select "Reset" and cycle power when prompted. All settings and calibrations will reset to their default values.

Hard Reset:

Power off the Copilot and hold both RED and BLUE pushbuttons while powering on the Copilot. All internal flash memory will be erased and reformatted. All settings and calibrations will reset to their default values.

Firmware Update:

From the settings menu select "Load Firmware". Connect the Copilot to a computer using a micro USB cable and wait for the external storage volume to appear. Copy the Copilot firmware to the storage volume and cycle power.

Troubleshooting:

Ensure the Copilot is fully charged or externally powered via micro USB or a wired connection. Cycle power OFF then ON. If the Copilot loading screen is frozen or indicates an error, perform a hard rest. If the Copilot cannot resolve magnetic heading, perform a sensor calibration. Ensure external sensors are properly wired according to the electrical connection diagrams.

Connection Diagrams:

The Copilot electronics are protected from a variety of electrical faults including over-current, static discharge and short circuits. Not all faults can be prevented. Ensure that electrical connections do not exceed the input voltage and output current limits to prevent permanent damage.
